On August 31, a large-scale cultural program named “China in Intangible Cultural Heritage (the Hubei Section)”, produced by CCTV and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, aired on CCTV-1. Shihua Kui Noodles-making Techniques, an intangible cultural heritage from Xiangyang amazingly appeared on this program, attracting the host and guests to highly praise.
Sa Beining, the famous host, and Xu Fan, the renowned actress, both originated from Hubei, and Shan Jixiang, the former director and curator of the Palace Museum, serving as the special guest, started a journey with intangible cultural heritage inheritors from Hubei to explore the beauties of the intangible cultural heritages of Hubei.

“This noodle is hollow, and you can blow it against the water.” Special guests all walked to the stall of Shihua Kui Noodles to communicate with the inheritor, and they used noodles to blow bubbles into a glass cup filled with water, which made Sa Beining exclaim: “Amazing!”

It was reported that Shihua Kui Noodles-making Techniques originated in Shihua Town, Gucheng County. Using high-quality flour, from kneading to shaping, Shihua Kui Noodles have 13 processes that take 25 hours. Through meticulous processes including mixing, kneading, twisting, and pulling, noodles as thin as hair are only one-sixth of the regular round noodles. Moreover, the noodles are hollow, chewy, and silky.
