Main exchanges with Xiangyang

In 2011, a cultural delegation from Province of Terni, Italy visited Xiangyang, with which the then Deputy Mayor Huang Dehua met.

On June 27, 2012, a goodwill mission led by the then Vice Chairman Wu Changhua of the CPPCC Xiangyang Municipal Committee visited Italy and signed a letter of intent for establishing sister city ties with Province of Terni, Italy.

In May 2016, Province of Terni was changed into City of Terni administratively and Xiangyang People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries requested instructions from the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries which agreed on continuation of sister city ties between the two and further strengthening of cooperation in economy, culture, education and other fields. In August 2016, an economic and trade delegation from Xiangyang led by Ge Lin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Xiangyang Municipal Committee and Chairman of Xiangyang Federation of Trade Unions, visited City of Terni, enhancing exchanges between the two cities.

Introduction to Terni

Terni, as a city in central Italy, is located in Province of Perugia, with an area of 211 square kilometers and a population of about 120,000. It is situated in the plain of the Nera River, a branch of Tiber River, in the middle part of Apennine Mountains, 80 kilometers south of Rome. It is an important archaeological center, where Neolithic villages, Neolithic tombs and Roman amphitheatres and walls are situated.

Terni has been one of Italy’s most important industrial bases since the Industrial Revolution, is the leading steel and chemical center nationwide and has research centers committed to green energy, thus it is nicknamed “Italian Manchester”.
