Xiangyang Daily (Chen Shuang and Yang Jing, the All-media Journalists, and Li Yujie and Li Mengqi, the Correspondents) On November 27, the Xiangcheng District Bureau of Commerce in Xiangyang, Hubei Province, announced that the completion of the upgrading project for the night market located on Bearing Second Road in Liuzishan Community, which has now officially opened to the public. Focused on the theme of “inheriting industrial memory and revitalizing everyday life,” this renovation aims to establish an integrated and diversified consumption space that injects new vitality into this historic street.

As night descends and the streetlights cast a warm glow, visitors entering the Bearing Second Road Night Market are welcomed by a harmonious blend of industrial aesthetics and vibrant urban life. Food-themed murals infuse the atmosphere with a sense of everyday warmth. Moreover, gear patterns embedded in the pavement and the signage proclaiming “Hello, Bearing Night Market!” serve as nostalgic symbols that connect the past to the present.
“The incorporation of these industrial elements transforms a stroll through the night market into a nostalgic journey reminiscent of bygone days,” said Mr. Wang, a retired worker from Xiangyang Automobile Bearing Ltd., as he pointed to the gear-themed pavement art. A young visitor added, “The renovation preserves the original charm while integrating modern design. It possesses significant potential to emerge as the next favored destination for social media check-ins.”

According to a relevant official from the Xiangcheng District Bureau of Commerce, the Bearing Second Road Night Market serves as a vivid example of Xiangcheng District’s commitment to enhancing the development concept of “one street with one characteristic.” To date, the district has cultivated 10 distinctive commercial streets. These include North Street, which showcases the Ancient City of Xiangyang’s cultural heritage; Guanjia Lane, which restores the architectural styles of the Ming and Qing dynasties; 603 Cultural and Creative Park, which revitalizes industrial heritage; Xiangshui Street, which promotes a leisurely waterfront lifestyle; Grand Tangcheng’s Chinatown, which exudes charm reminiscent of the Tang dynasty; Beijinshu Art District, which focuses on art collection; Mayue Tanxi Sports Park, which emphasizes health and leisure; and, Zhakou Shrimp Street, which is recognized as a culinary landmark. Notably, four of these streets have been acknowledged as provincial-level distinctive commercial streets.
With its upgrade, this night market has formed a consumption space that harmoniously blends historical depth with market vitality through a “culture and livelihood” model. Moving forward, Xiangcheng District will improve supporting services such as nighttime parking and outdoor stall management while actively introducing new formats, including cultural-creative markets and themed parades. These initiatives aim to deepen the integration of industrial heritage with Xiangyang’s nighttime economy, ensuring that the revitalized street culture continues to invigorate urban vibrancy.
