Xiangyang Daily (Chen Shuang, the All-media Journalist, and Liu Yangli and Shi Zhiyuan, the Correspondents) On November 16, the bicycle race, titled “Fragrance Abounding in Xiangcheng: Experiencing the Autumn Charm Through Cycling Amidst Rivers and Mountains,” took place in Muqiao Village, Yinji Township, within Xiangcheng District, Xiangyang, Hubei Province. This event was part of the 2025 “Enjoying the Colors of Autumn” Hubei Cycling Sports Consumption Season. Over 100 cyclists from across China participated, delivering a vibrant “sports feast” that seamlessly combined strength and elegance.
Hosted by the Xiangcheng District Government and organized by the Xiangcheng District Sports Bureau, with support from Yinji Township and the Xiangyang Cycling Association, the event featured two major categories: mountain biking and road cycling. The mountain biking race included the men’s elite group, men’s master group, and women’s group, while the road cycling race consisted of men’s and women’s groups. Over 20 teams and more than 100 cyclists from Hubei, Henan, Jiangxi, and other regions participated.
According to Dong Min, Deputy Director of the Xiangcheng District Bureau of Culture and Tourism, cycling is a low-carbon, environmentally friendly, and highly influential transportation mode, giving it unique advantages in promoting the integration of culture, sports, and tourism. The racecourse was designed to follow the terrain of Muqiao Village, with a single lap measuring 4.3 kilometers, providing both a competitive challenge and landscape appeal.
In early winter, Muqiao Village was adorned with vibrant colors and picturesque scenery. Cyclists traversed rural routes, immersing themselves in the enchanting views of the countryside. Following the race, participants indulged in local delicacies, including chicken soup and steamed cured meats, at the village’s community canteen.
Since 2023, Xiangcheng District has been actively promoting the integrated development of culture, sports, and tourism. By capitalizing on its unique local resources, the district has established a series of rural sporting events, including rural marathons, cycling races, off-road vehicle competitions, equestrian events, and VBA (Village Basketball Association) activities, drawing over 100,000 participants and spectators. These initiatives have significantly contributed to the growth of agritainment businesses and homestays in Yinji Township, Wolong Town, and Oumiao Town. Furthermore, they have played vital roles in fostering nationwide fitness awareness and advancing rural revitalization efforts.
