On February 2, the World Wetlands Day Science Popularization Campaign themed “Wetlands and traditional knowledge: Celebrating cultural heritage ” was held at the Xipaizi Lake National Wetland Park in Laohekou City, Xiangyang, Hubei Province. The event aimed to raise public awareness of wetland ecology and promote outstanding traditional cultures related to wetlands.

At the event site, a series of science popularization exhibition panels, covering wetland types, ecological functions, bird resources, and traditional knowledge, were eye-catching, attracting many visitors to stop and engage. Science popularization volunteers distributed promotional materials and vividly explained the irreplaceable role of wetlands in conserving water sources and maintaining biodiversity. Drawing upon local contexts, they also introduced folk cultural practices and traditional ecological knowledge rooted in wetland ecosystems, while clarifying relevant wetland protection policies and regulations.
To enhance the campaign’s interactivity and appeal, the organizers introduced a prize-based Q&A session on wetland knowledge, drawing enthusiastic participation from attendees. Through this engaging and enjoyable activity, visitors deepened their understanding of wetland ecosystems and strengthened their commitment to conservation.

This event integrates a popular science campaign with traditional culture, strengthening the public’s sense of responsibility and engagement in wetland conservation, and fostering a favorable environment for inheriting ecological cultural heritage and advancing harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature in a beautiful homeland.
