Xiangyang Daily (Shen Mingjin, the All-media Journalist, and Chen Sai’e and Zhu Yiwei, the Correspondents) On September 9, the launch ceremony for the main event of the “National Science Popularization Month,” organized by the Department of Natural Resources of Hubei Province for 2025, took place in Xiangyang. This marks the first “National Science Popularization Month” initiative within Hubei Province’s natural resources system. Xue Ming, a second-level inspector at the Department of Natural Resources of Hubei Province, along with relevant officials from the Hubei Association for Science and Technology, Xiangyang Association for Science and Technology, Xiangyang Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources and Urban-Rural Development, and other organizations, participated in this significant event.

This event is organized by the Department of Natural Resources of Hubei Province and the Hubei Association for Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Xiangyang Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources and Urban-Rural Development, as well as the Xiangyang Association for Science and Technology. The primary objectives are to promote awareness of natural resource protection, sustainable utilization, and ecological civilization construction; to highlight the abundant natural resources along with their scientific and cultural significance within Hubei Province; to facilitate collaboration and resource sharing among science popularization bases; to explore innovative models that integrate both online and offline science communication; and ultimately to enhance public scientific literacy and foster an exploratory spirit, particularly among young people.

Xue Ming emphasized in his speech that Hubei Province is endowed with rich ecological resources, including mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, and grasslands. In the context of comprehensively advancing science popularization efforts, enhancing the dissemination of scientific knowledge in the realm of natural resources is particularly significant. Xue hopes that all regions will leverage this event as a catalyst to expedite the establishment of a provincial linkage platform for science popularization bases. This initiative aims to engage public participation widely and collectively harness the “centripetal force” driving natural resource science popularization.

At the event, Fang Xinhao, a student from Migong Primary School and the third-prize winner of the 6th “Beautiful China” Children’s Hand-drawn Map Competition, shared his experiences in science popularization creation. Associate Professor Liu Fujiang from China University of Geosciences delivered a lecture on science popularization with a focus on remote sensing as the main theme. Additionally, students from Century City Middle School in the Dongjin New District collaborated to create an impressive 100-meter-long hand-drawn scroll.
