Guangcai Interchange Has Officially Opened to Traffic
Source:    Date:2026-01-04

Xiangyang Daily (Shen Mingjing, the All-media Journalist, and Xie Hualing and Qin Yiwen, the Correspondents) At 9:00 a.m. on December 31, 2025, the mainline bridge and the ramp bridge of the Guangcai Interchange on Dengcheng Avenue in Xiangzhou District, Xiangyang, Hubei Province, were officially opened to traffic.

The Guangcai Interchange is located at the intersection of Dengcheng Avenue and Chunyuan Road. Due to heavy traffic volumes, this junction has long been identified as one of the most severely congested spots in Xiangyang. To remove this bottleneck and improve Xiangyang’s transportation network—characterized by “smooth internal circulation and efficient external connectivity”—Xiangyang initiated the reconstruction of the Guangcai Interchange in 2024.

The interchange features a three-level configuration. The ground level remains a signalized at-grade intersection; the first elevated level carries the east–west mainline overpass of Dengcheng Avenue; and the second elevated level consists of a left-turn ramp bridge from east to south along Dengcheng Avenue. The section opened this time includes the first-level elevated mainline bridge and the second-level ramp bridge. The mainline bridge has four lanes in each direction with a speed limit of 60 km/h, while the ramp bridge consists of two lanes with a speed limit of 30 km/h.

According to a head from the Xiangyang Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau, since the opening of the interchange, through traffic traveling east–west along Dengcheng Avenue, as well as vehicles turning left from east to south, can now proceed swiftly via the overpass. The average travel time through the intersection has been significantly reduced—from approximately five minutes to just about 50 seconds. This improvement not only greatly alleviates traffic congestion along Dengcheng Avenue and enhances overall traffic efficiency but also further strengthens Xiangyang’s rapid road network, providing a convenient corridor for cross-district travel.

At present, traffic on the interchange has been fully restored, while supporting infrastructure works—including surface roads and drainage facilities—are being expedited. All ground-level vehicular lanes are expected to be fully operational by the 2026 Spring Festival.
